There are tons of articles out there trying to give you top tips on how to green a home or your interior design, and it can be confusing, overwhelming, and well-meaning but misseducational. I figure a good way to break down part of my approach is to share the strategies I think about:

The back wall is styled with more organic curtains locally poured candles reclaimed sofa table and marble lamps.

The fireplace is in & tiled, the television is up on the mantle, and the area is styled with wonderful brass accents. I also painted the fireplace surround with a black, direct-to-metal paint

We've installed engineered bamboo click lock floors as well as painted non-VOC paint in woodland white (basically light green) on the walls, and converted the front door to a Dutch Door.

We're using this awesome patterned tile from Bedrosians Tile and Stone to re-do our fireplace surround in our living room. We love the fun, unique look it has while still being somewhat neutral.
